Serving Holliston, MA 01746 · Since 2010
Owner-run. Same crew every visit. Written plan within 48 hours.
Holliston sits on the high ground where the Charles River watershed starts, out west of Framingham. Lots run big here, often half an acre to well over an acre, so there is more lawn, more tree line, and glacial till underneath that holds water. There is also a town water ban every summer you have to plan the whole season around.
GOAT Hardscape has served Holliston, MA since 2010. Adilson runs every crew personally, visits every property before any work begins, and answers his own phone: (774) 578-2317.
The ground under Holliston is glacial till, sand and clay dropped on bedrock by the ice sheets. Till drains slowly. On flat, low ground you get soggy turf and moss. On the higher rises the soil thins and dries fast. Town elevation runs from about 125 feet near the brooks to over 400 feet at its high points, so a single property can have a wet back corner and a scorched front slope. Soil across this part of MetroWest tends acidic, which favors moss and crabgrass unless the lawn gets limed. Big wooded lots mean heavy shade, surface roots, and leaf litter that smothers grass along the bed edges. Lake Winthrop and Bogastow Brook keep parts of town near the water table. We read each yard before we seed it or feed it.
Every service runs across Holliston on one owner-supervised standard, the same crew each visit. Tap any service for how we handle it here.
Holliston Center holds the older antique colonials, tighter lots with mature plantings that want hand work, not big machines. Mudville, the old village just outside the center, is much the same, close houses and old trees. Braggville sits out on the rural west side with bigger, more open parcels. Newer executive subdivisions scatter between them on roughly one-acre lots. Each one needs its own plan.

Spring comes slow on shaded till lots. The ground stays wet into April, so cleanups wait until it firms up enough to work without rutting the lawn. Then the town water ban lands May 1 and runs through September, with odd and even addresses split across set days and nothing allowed from 9 to 5. Lawns on the high, sandy sections take real drought stress through July and August. Fall is the big season here. Holliston is heavily wooded, and the leaf load off mature oaks and maples is serious, usually several passes. Snow runs December into March, and rural frontage means long plow runs and open stretches that drift.

We set irrigation schedules and time our visits around your address so you stay inside the rules.
That is the glacial till under most of Holliston. It is sand and clay packed on bedrock, and it drains slowly, so low and shaded spots hold water. Moss and thin grass follow. We fix it with aeration, regrading for drainage, soil amendment, and shade-tolerant seed, instead of just reseeding the same failing patch every year.
Yes. A lot of Holliston sits on half an acre to over an acre with heavy tree cover. That means real leaf volume, root competition, and shade thinning the turf. We do full fall cleanups, edge and bed work under the tree line, and seed varieties that take shade. Same crew every visit, with the owner on site.
Yes, we run 24/7 snow removal. Rural Holliston frontage, long driveways, and the open stretches out near Braggville drift and take longer plow runs. We plan routes and set stakes before the first storm so you are not left waiting when the snow comes.
